The summer is traditionally a time to relax and is often a quiet period particularly in construction projects, but this definitely can’t be said about work on The Civic. On site work has continued throughout the summer (such as it was!) at an increasingly rapid pace towards completion of the project, with the finishing touches that make The Civic such a unique building now being added.
Work continues inside
In our last e-bulletin, we looked how the Reading Room ceiling has been carefully restored to its former glory. Using a similar technique of taking detailed casts of the original ornate plasterwork, the unique mouldings that formed the ceiling and window features of the former theatre space have been carefully reproduced and are being painstakingly re-installed.
The new mouldings identical copies of the Victorian originals, recreate the intricate ceiling inside the new Assembly Room.
Job vacancies at The Civic
If you’re interested in working at The Civic, there are a number of new exciting opportunities that are becoming available in the building. A number of new posts will soon be required to join the new team including among others an exhibition curator/ education specialist and a facilities manager for the building.
